Anne O’Connor / Artist
Anne O’Connor is a conceptual and contemporary photographic artist with a strong connection to Launceston and Tasmania’s East Coast. She holds a Bachelor of Contemporary Art from the University of Tasmania, completed in 2015.
Her practice explores place, nature and everyday life, often beginning by walking through familiar landscapes and observing what others might pass by. Rather than seeking conventional views, Anne is drawn to the ignored, unseen and ephemeral — overlooked details, textures and patterns that reveal another perspective on place.
Photography forms the foundation of her work, which she extends through experimental processes including artist books and hand stitching. Combining photographic imagery with paper and thread allows Anne to physically join, alter and reinterpret landscapes, adding texture and a distinctly tactile quality to her work.
Themes of memory, change, femininity and our relationship with the natural environment recur throughout her practice.
Anne was a finalist in the 2024 Women’s Art Prize Tasmania and has exhibited her work in Launceston, including a solo exhibition at Raincoat Contemporary Art Space in 2025.
