June Hope / Artist
June Hope is a mixed media and textile artist based in Ulverstone, Tasmania. Her practice is rooted in the ancient tradition of handmade felt yet takes on a distinctly contemporary approach. Using wet hand felt-making, she combines sheep fleece with natural fabrics and fibres to create unique tactile surfaces that are both subtle and richly expressive.
Her work often blends felt with other mixed media techniques, guided by an intuitive process and deeply influenced by the colours and textures of the Tasmanian landscape. Through both 2D and 3D works, June explores themes of memory, emotion, and connection, producing forms whose ambiguity invites closer inspection and reflection.
June’s achievements include recognition as both a finalist and winner in several art prizes, most recently the Meander Valley Art Prize in 2024. Her work is represented in public and private galleries across Tasmania, as well as in private collections internationally. Alongside exhibitions and commissions, she continues to create works that reflect her personal journey and her enduring connection to the natural environment.
