Marilyn Patton / Artist
After retirement from a career in Clinical and Administrative Social Work in the United States, I married and moved to beautiful Tasmania in 2013. I am enjoying a second chapter as I follow my dream of having time to paint. Art creation and appreciation has always been, and continues to be, a mainstay in my life.
In my study of drawing and painting I have been fortunate to have had access to brilliant tutors including Robert Beverly Hale, Ron McIntosh, Leoni Duff, Lee Machalac, Martinho Correia, Clare Holder, Diane Rappisi, Colley Whisson, Ross Patterson, Zin Lim, Lyn Deiffenbach, Graeme Whittle, Ben Winspear, and David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, and Jackie Kamin at Bright Light Fine Art. I paint primarily in oil, gouache and charcoal. My current explorations include still life, portraits, Tasmanian landscapes, and figurative works. I am particularly interested in deepening my understanding of the painting process so as to create beautiful compositions that inspire people in their lives.
I am a self-taught printmaker and work in linocut relief prints, monotypes, drypoint etchings, serigraph, and waterless lithography. Especially interesting to me is to produce complex prints using various combinations of these technologies.
